Newcastle Wedding Photographer: Erika Tanith

Weddings come in all shapes and sizes.

Modern… cool… vintage… retro… low key… extravaganzas.

When it comes to finding your perfect wedding photographer, the perfect personality, the ideal price, a style that matches your own aesthetic: you have a few choices to make.

Let me tell you a little about me before we move on. I'm an award winning Newcastle wedding photographer covering the North East and beyond. I specialise in un-posed, reportage-style wedding photography and have over 13 years experience. Okay, that was painless enough, but enough with the boring stuff…

Natural, Timeless Storytelling

The key to great wedding photography (be it in Newcastle, the North East or any destination on earth!) is summed up in those three words. Natural. Timeless. Storytelling.

Natural - The best images are where you’re being yourself. When I can capture the true moments of your day. The smiles, the laughter, the joy, the fun… the true personalities within. I blend into your day photographing [storytelling] as the day unfolds, allowing you to have the magical wedding you’ve been dreaming of. Posed pics are great, but they aren’t where the “true gold” of photography is.

Timeless - This is all about style and the right photography apparatus to complement that style. As the years pass what’s in vogue changes. Trends change. Even colour changes it’s meaning to people. What was cool and hip in the 90’s may not be cool and hip right now. Timeless wedding photography exceeds the barriers of time. In other words it doesn’t matter when a photo was taken (20 years ago, 5 years ago, today) or when a photo is viewed (today or 10 years from now) the image itself remains timeless. Classic. Enduring. This is done by a combination of years of hard earned experience and skill and the perfect blend of composition, creativity and mood.

Storytelling - That’s what your wedding day is. A story. That’s what your time together is. A story. And that’s what my wedding photography aims to tell: the story of your day.

So, what makes me tick outside of wedding photography?

I love the outdoors. If there’s ever a weekend where I’m not shooting a wedding, you’ll find me half way up a mountain, or traipsing through one of the many beautiful woodlands or beaches the North East has to offer.

On quieter days I love a good book. I enjoy a variety of genres, everything from fantasy to Scandi noir, Edwardian tales of the weird to dark futurism, fantastical realism, and horror. I adore horror movies too, especially the bad ones! You know the terribly acted ones where they’re just as funny as horrific? Rubber monsters are a bonus.

I also have an army of free range chickens in my back garden who sneak into the kitchen on occasion for treats. Did I say ‘on occasion’? I meant all the time. They are like pampered royalty, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Pictures of said chickens, in an array of cute poses, available on request :p

If you have any queries or would like to book me as your wedding photographer don’t hesitate to reach out. I’d love to hear from you!

JACKPOT

We hit the wedding photographer jackpot when we booked Erika for our special day. Prompt, professional and generally lovely from the outset, with excellent communication.
Erika made the day itself even better by keeping stress levels to a minimum, going with the flow and still getting all the shots we wanted as the opportunities arose. She was simultaneously non-intrusive while also being everywhere and capturing every single joyful moment that happened, including the best candid portraits of our loved ones that I could possibly imagine.
The photos themselves are gorgeous; beautifully shot, with atmospheric lighting and a wonderful eye for detail. They are a precious record of the happiest of days and treasured memories.
She’s also a decent, genuine good egg with a kind soul, and charges entirely reasonable fees.
Hopefully I won’t need the services of wedding photographer again myself but would happily recommend her to anyone else in a heartbeat.
