Lord Crewe Arms Wedding Photography - Sarah & Jim

Wedding photography at The Lord Crewe Arms Northumberland North Pennines AONB

Despite Blanchland being a whole 20 minutes from my house, I’d never visited it until Sarah & Jim asked me to shoot their wedding there. Since then, I’ve been SO MANY TIMES! It’s a quaint little village with lots of walks, amazing history and, most importantly, The Lord Crewe Arms. The Lord Crewe is a fascinating building, dating back to the 12th Century when it was a guest house to the then newly-formed Blanchland Abbey. There are so many amazing features still intact in this incredible place, it also has a really warm and welcoming vibe which is handy if you’re getting married.

Sarah was getting ready with her bridesmaids in one side of the building, while Jim and Rice were getting ready across the square. The rooms are cosy and warm, really bright, and lovely to be in. being so far apart there was no chance of accidentally running into each other, and a nice walk for both of them to the ceremony room, which looked absolutely stunning with all the autumn flowers. We had beautiful weather for it too, you’d never think this were early November! The low sun cast a warm glow across the whole day, and even though it wasn’t toasty out, it was nice enough that coats and shawls were only needed after the sun went down, and even then there were fire pits.

The ceremony was really up-beat, with Rice pretending to forget the rings, lots of smiling, smooching and tears, and everything you could ever want from getting married.

After the ceremony there was champagne, nibbles and beer. Beer! Always a great choice in a pub that brews its own.

We took the formal photos at the bottom of the garden, with the rolling North Pennine hills as a backdrop, and then went inside for speeches. I could have gone to town on the speech shots, but I was good and restrained myself. Lots of tears, laughter, and even a jokey middle finger for yours truly (it was funny, I promise). After dinner everyone chilled out for a bit: more beers around the fires, and then on to the evening. Again, I had to restrain myself, because the evening pictures were so much fun with all the disco lights and people pulling shapes, but there’s only so much space! See:

Oh my god, I almost forgot! So, not only did Sarah and Jim have the most incredible wedding, Sarah also made the cake. How flippin talented is she?! She’s based in Shropshire, so if you happen to be over her way, do check out Blondie Bakes. If she can do that for her wedding, imagine what she can do when she’s chilled?
