Crook Hall Wedding Photography – Lucy & Gerry

Crook Hall Wedding Photography

Lucy and Gerry got married at Crook Hall in April. Crook Hall is a beautiful venue on the edge of Durham City; a peaceful little oasis you’d only know was so close to the city from the stunning view of the cathedral from the gardens.

It was the hottest day of the year so far, but Crook Hall is comfortable inside and Lucy was getting ready upstairs with her mother and bridesmaids. I do love the atmosphere just before a couple marry, it really is like nothing else; excitement, nerves, elation! It’s all a part of the perfect day.

After the ceremony the gusts threw confetti, drank sparkly drinks, and were forced to pose for pictures. Still, it’s a small price to pay to be a part of such incredible celebrations! Before the meals both the mother of the bride, and of the groom gave speeches. Not traditional, but certainly very heartfelt and moving. Personally, I think more mothers should make speeches at weddings, especially if they’re as good as these two ladies’.

With Lucy and Gerry’s day being so warm and happy I really wanted to emphasise that in the photography. The trend in wedding photography at the moment is for dark and partially de-saturated images. Don’t get me wrong, I like that style of photography, but it isn’t my style. I prefer my pictures to tell the story of the day, and for the retouching/editing to help communicate the feelings and emotions at that time. Weddings are joyous events and to me that means bright and colourful photography. Being a spring wedding I wanted an open and fresh feeling to the pictures, bringing the primary colours of the bouquets to the fore. I’ve used some light pastel toning on a few of the images for a more delicate air too.
