Best Wedding Photography of 2024

It’s that time of year again! The time when I have to search through 12 months of incredible weddings and try to pick a handful of images to showcase the joy, the emotion, and the beautiful places I’ve been able to photograph. As usual I spent far too long getting side tracked and making “aww” noises, but I’ve come to accept that as part of the job. Anyway, the trip down memory lane is always a scenic one!

Every year seems to have its own “flavour”. I don’t just mean wedding trends, but there is always a certain feel to each year that is subtly different to the last. This year’s weddings saw more muted colours, but a broader array of them, along with a more casual feel. Ten years ago there would have been a few top hat and tails weddings, but not in 2024! Colin the Caterpillar enjoyed his moment in the sun, along with blow-up animals and a tattoo station (seriously, I need more temp tattoo spots at weddings!). And! And! I got to enjoy three Lord of the Rings themed weddings, two of which were back to back and at the same venue. That was weird, let me tell you.

On to the main course! Here’s a handful of my favourite photos from all of the wonderful weddings I shot through 2024. Thank you so much to all the fabulous couples who booked me to be a part of their special day. Thank you for trusting me with your memories.

Portraits

Shaking things up by putting this segment first for a change. There is never enough space for all the styled shots I want to show off, especially because I like to display a mixture of the sensible stuff, and the ones where folk act up for the camera. I would never in a million years ask the groomsmen to hold the groom for a picture, but if they decide to do it themselves then you can guarantee I’m loving every moment.

Ceremony and Confetti Photos

Even when couples book mini packages, the parts of the day that always get covered are the ceremony and what happens immediately afterwards. They’re the core of any wedding: the proof that it happened, and that you looked stunning. I mean like… really stunning. This year I saw more quaichs than ever before, along with some really unique and personal touches into the ceremonies including handfasting and candle ceremonies. Did you know that you can personalise the giving of the rings? I think that’s really cool.

Black and White

My big thing is colour. I love it. I can’t get enough of it. But sometimes you see the structure of an image better if it’s in black and white. Not just any old black and white, of course. I am a nerd after all, and have several film emulators, which means I can process my images to look like Ilford Delta 400, Kodak Tri-X, and various other filmstocks without breaking the bank. Pretty neat, huh?

Candid and Evening

Oh look, it’s my favourite!

You knew I was going to say that. And that this is the hardest section to pick favourites for. It took me a while, but here we are: these are the natural and unposed photos that I am most proud of from 2024, and the ones that make me smile the most.

Details

I think it’s important to capture all the details of your day. It shows the character and the flair, your personalities and all the time and hard work you put into crafting the perfect day. In the years to come you want to be able to remember the colour of the buttonholes, the vibrancy of your cake, the brooch you attached to your bouquet. The details are important.

Animals

Not as many pets at weddings this year, but blow-up animals were in! They’re like pets but there’s less cleaning up to do.

Venues

I am so privileged to live and work on the North East of England. Mountains, stately homes, sweeping white flag beaches, ancient churches, and rugged countryside, I still marvel that this is my home even after all these years. It’s no wonder so many people elope to this stunning corner of the world for their weddings, I mean… look at it:
